Stuffed (2017) Phoebe Corker-Marin
As an artist I seek to explore our internal narratives. For me these experiences are quite physical, grounded in my body. It is through my body that I perceive, remember, and react to the world. I therefore set out to transcribe these internal experiences into physical objects; evoking the emotions through the materials and poses of my sculptures.
I find the process of making them has a meditative quality, grounding me when my thoughts become too chaotic. Their small, hand-held, scale makes problems manageable and suits the intimate subjects they address.
Rather than shouting, their size is an invitation to come closer and engage with their world.
